Perfect Honeymoon in Hawaii

14 October 2009 No Comment

Have you considered Hawaii for your honeymoon. It’s a great destination for July and August when many typical honeymoon destinations are in monsoon season or threatening tornadoes.

This week long trip can also be tagged onto the end of a trip through the Rocky Mountains of Canada when booking with Kuoni or Virgin Holidays

We flew Vancouver to Honolulu with Air Canada

When you arrive, you really feel that you have arrived in Hawaii – we were given flowers by Hawaiian greeters at the airport – a really nice touch.  Honolulu was a great experience but we were glad that we were not going to be staying in this bustling city for a week or more.  We stayed at the very pink Royal Hawaiian Hotel for 1 night.  Service was fabulous and homemade banana cake was brought round to the room every afternoon.  Fabulous! Enjoy cocktails at the bar opposite the beach. It was a wonderful spot to people watch.

We took Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu to Hawaii, the big Island.  The Airport was so pretty.  Driving to the airport looks all very grey due to the Island being Volcanic.  Parts are very lush and green, other parts are just black.  We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in a Garden/Golf/Mountain View room.  The hotel was absolutely amazing.  It was breathtaking!  There is a monorail which takes guests all around the resort. Gentle Hawaiian guitar music plays in the carriages as you are quietly taken to many destinations around the hotel. Maybe the swimming pool, maybe breakfast? A wonderful meal in one of the many onsite restaurants? The Dolphin Sanctuary where you can book to swim with the Dolphins?  The hotel was very relaxing after the stress of organising a wedding in the weeks just before.

If you don’t want to go by monorail, then travel by boat around the resort.  Again, absolutely wonderful. A boat arrives every few minutes to take guests to restaurants, bars or maybe just back to your room?  Make sure you just take a boat ride around the whole resort.  There is also a salt water lagoon for bathing, swimming with turtles, hiring a boat or just lying on the beach.

Another trip you must attempt to do… and this can be booked through the hotel, is the helicopter view of the island. The trip is generally two hours and the scenery from the air is amazing.  We went with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. The pilot narrated the whole trip and the highlight of our flight was seeing an erupting volcano from the air.  We were given a video of our experience as part of the package.

The hotel had a Hawaiian barbeque meal and show most evenings which was fantastic and very interesting.  We sat on long tables with other guests and met some interesting people.

There are several Hawaiian Islands so choose which one suits you best.  You could easily take in several of them if you take a two week holiday.  Maybe it is silly to stay on just one if you are travelling all the way from the UK.  Whatever you decide. Hawaii is a wonderful destination for a honeymoon. We would not recommend just staying in Honolulu though. There are so many beautiful places just a short Hawaiian Airlines flight away.
